Since 2010, GDF SUEZ holds a 50% participation interest in the Ashrafi oil field located offshore in the Gulf of Suez. Ashrafi is operated by Agiba which is a Joint Venture between EGPC and IEOC (a subsidiary of ENI). The Ashrafi field was discovered in 1986. The licence covers an area of 124 km², with a reservoir depth ranging between 1,500 m and 2,000 m.
The production phase of the Ashrafi field began in 1992. After a work over campaign end of 2010, production peaked up to 9,000 bbl/d in 2011. At the end of 2012, the cumulated production from Ashrafi was 103 million barrels. The estimated remaining 2P reserves are 2.9 million barrels. Early 2013, production rate reached 2,800 bbl/d.
